□ Name: Ryouichi Kijima (alias Zakuro)
□ Journal: http://psychiczakuro.dreamwidth.org
□ Series: Hana Kimi
□ Canon point: Shortly after he has drinks with Umeda

□ History: Ryouichi grew up the privileged son of a doctor. He could have had anything he wanted in the world but all he desired was the love of a father who was far more interested in his own work than his children. Realizing at a very early age that he would never have his father's love, he was left to put on a kind face for the world while caring for no one since he was convinced that no one could care about him. This all changed when a young boy named Masato was brought to their home.

This boy was on a suicide watch, deemed mentally unstable. Ryouichi's father was to take care of him but the one that Masato quickly attached himself to was Ryouichi instead. Here was someone who finally needed him and he jumped at that, taking care of this boy who was just a few years younger than himself without hesitation. Whatever he needed, he provided. A bath, food, someone to hold him, he gave everything to him to the point of spoiling him quite thoroughly. Through this though, he came to care about him deeply, constantly concerned about his health and what his mental state was.

In high school, he ended up in the same class as Hokuto Umeda. The school loved Ryouichi but Hokuto suspected there was more to him and started to really study him. It actually didn't take long before the other teen came to realize that everything about this popular teen was a lie. He was hiding his real nature from the world and actually didn't care about anyone at all. By seeing through this part of him, he actually grew closer to Ryouichi, perhaps even becoming his first real friend...ever.

The two spent a lot of time together, attending classes, smoking together when they could. It wasn't long before they'd become intimate after a fashion, kissing the tips of their cigarettes together in order to light them. In a way, he was aware that Hokuto was developing feelings from this but he paid it little mind since this simply meant that he would have company.

Then Masato ended up in the hospital. Rushing there, he showed Hokuto how deeply he could care for someone as he actually cried out for him and went into a panic over the news. Sitting by his bed, he stayed with him until Masato was well again. Then, refusing to come to school, he stayed home in order to take care of the boy. This caused Hokuto to come visit and find out what was going on but he refused to apologize for his absence since Masato needed him so badly. Still, his school duties called him back and he returned to help with festivities.

Hokuto kissed him. He pulled him away from everyone and pressed him to a wall to kiss him. That day everything became real to him and he truly realized there was someone who cared for him. Honestly, he'd never cared for anyone aside from the boy at his home before but he did care for Hokuto in his own way. Some time passed after this and Ryouichi grabbed his friend to kiss him back, saying he was returning the favor. From that day on, they stayed friends, even after graduation.

After graduation, Ryouichi established himself in his own place and became a professional psychic. He brought Masato to come live with him and, by doing so, actually helped him to become a functioning part of society again. In fact, he gave Masato a job as one his employees when he saw that the boy's good looks would help to bring in the customers. However, he also saw that he didn't really have the personality for it which lead to him starting to hypnotize him in order to bring out a side of the now teen which would be what the customers wanted. This went on for a time without incident and he even got the boy all the way into high school.

A young girl named Futaba came to work for him as a live-in cook. She was quite handy to have around and it was soon revealed that she also went to the same school as Masato. It wasn't long before she figured out what Ryouichi was doing to him and confronted him about it but he told her to mind her own business. Futaba couldn't put up with this though and soon she had the news out that Masato was being hypnotized by his guardian. This caused the boy to confront Ryouichi before leaving and refusing to come back.

The day Futaba and Masato came to Ryouichi, he thought he might lose him but Masato instead came to hug him and say that he didn't want to lose him in his life. They made it up to each other and after the two left he drew a Tarot card for them and found it to be The Lovers card. Realizing those two were destined for each other, he hoped they would figure it out soon so they could just be happy.

After the two finished school, they got married and had a child. He still was there to be part of Masato's life, even there to spend time with the baby. He also found time to catch drinks with Hokuto when he had the time off of work, often frustrating him by canceling or showing up late instead without an apology. They were still close and still kissing cigarettes.

Somehow, despite everything, he'd really found himself a family.

□ Personality: For the most part, his personality can be described as something of a mystery. People will see a charming side that can be rather kind with a sweet smile. He will seem good-natured and willing to sit there and listen to the problems of a friend. However, he is not an open person and there are few who actually know very much about him at all. In fact, a lot of people these days only know him by his alias instead of by his real name. What his past is like, what he enjoys and doesn't enjoy, that all all tends to be rather unclear since he's not one to open up enough to share these details with others.

In all honesty though, the reason he doesn't open up is because he doesn't actually care about the vast majority of, well, anyone. Ryouichi wasn't shown much love and tenderness as a child so he doesn't see the need to really extend it to others. Aside from that, he can see that people can function well enough without getting any of that from him so all he has to do is just put on the act and people will just move on with their lives without him bothering to put any effort into caring about anything to do with what is going on. Most people never even realize this is the case so it goes unnoticed that he's not just this nice young man they see him as.

More than that, he is the type of person to do horrible things without a care. He will easily hypnotize someone he has taken care of for years in order to help business, ignore people and pretend like he didn't have the time, say terrible things to Hokuto who his really his best friend, cancel on drinks with someone then show up without an apology. In all honesty, he generally isn't bothered if someone doesn't like what he does and will tell them as much if they confront him about it. More than that, he may even give very good reasons for it or just pull a power card if they happen to be working for him. He isn't asking people for their approval and doesn't care if they won't give it to him. This is his life and he will do as he pleases with it. Of course, it's also important to note that he's also likely to do the vast majority of these things without actually considering how cruel they are despite the fact that he doesn't care and won't apologize for them.

What makes all of this worse is that he is able to easily read other people to understand them. He knows how their minds work and knows what he can say to strike the hardest and what words will save someone from themselves. Though Ryouichi has no love for his father, he did end up learning quite a lot from him. This can be quite useful to his job as well because he can easily read to find out just what it is a person wants most from their visit with him which allows him to give it to him. They want a gorgeous psychic to tell them things like if their loved ones are there, if they will get rich, are their spouses cheating, and he gives this to them. Never are they the wiser to the fact that he can see what they want all over their faces.

For the most part, he is a loner because of this apathy. He is content to spend time on his own despite living with several people. Reading, painting, reading Tarot cards are just a few of the ways he passes his time. For the most part, he does drift to one of these though, something that doesn't draw attention to him and something he can do quietly without having to talk to anyone for a time unless someone decides to sit there with him. It seems quite surprising that he should want so little attention to his person given the way his sense of style calls attention to his person but it's true all the same. Quiet solitude is where he can go to relax and recharge since he is an introvert in the end.

A lot of this would suggest that he is completely incapable of caring about anyone at all. It's actually quite the contrary but only a choice few are permitted this close to his heart. After receiving no love from his father for years, he wasn't at all interested in just handing out his heart to anyone and to this day still hesitates to do so. In fact, one can easily see that there are still only two who have managed to slip past the barriers that he's had in place for this long.

The first is Masato. He came to live with Ryouichi from a young age and took to him quickly. It became clear that the only way he'd get better was if Ryouichi took care of him so that's what he did. In doing so, he grew to find that there was someone out there who really needed him even if his father didn't care at all. This allows him to begin to care for him and this extends for years to come until he becomes his primary guardian. Even now he remains a strong part of his life, even being close to his wife and child. This isn't to say that Masato is immune to the cruelties but it does mean that he cares more if Masato tries to leave his life as a result. He is actually afraid of losing him and clings to him as a result at times. He has gotten better though, allowing him to live his own life and making his own decisions without him getting in this way. For Ryouichi, this is quite the step forward.

The other person is Hokuto. It's actually startling how easy it would be to argue that he doesn't actually care for this man. He says terrible things to him, calls off drink dates, led him around in high school, intentionally pushed buttons to upset him... There are any number of reasons why one could say that Ryouichi actually doesn't care for Hokuto at all. Yet, the opposite is the truth. Despite all of this, he has stayed friends with him when he's stayed friends with no one else. He's also allowed him to see a side of himself that he's kept hidden away from others. Hokuto understands him probably better than anyone else in the world which means he's free to be himself without having to worry about being judged for the fact. To this day, he still goes to have drinks with him when he can, still kisses cigarettes with him in order to get a light. They've shared a kiss and, while their relationship is still kind of a mystery, he isn't at all bothered by the fact. This person is his best friend and he really cares about his feelings no matter how often he blows them off.

Were someone to argue that he's a good person and a kind person, they clearly don't know him that well. He knows this but doesn't really care about the opinions of others. If it's good for a reputation then he'll be charming but if he's not going to get anything out of it then he's not likely to bother to be kind. If anything, he'll decide to go for being tactless instead. He may not go out of his way to be horrible to a person but the fact that he can do so without a thought put into it can sometimes be the worst thing of all. On the flip side though, he does care about some people and will put effort into them.

It's just nearly impossible to become such a person.

□ Age: 27
□ Gender: Male

□ Appearance: He is just a little shorter than 6' and very slender. In the series, he is described as being impossibly good looking. His hair is short and styled to spike all over in a messy sort of manner and he tends to wear quite stylish clothes that are usually either punky or gothic. This means a lot of dark colors and interesting patterns such as leopard. Ryouichi also has fair skin that gives him a sort of marble look with several piercings in his ears and dark silver eyes that can be quite piercing. For the most part his face can seem quite kind or mysterious upon first meeting him but when one gets to know him he can tend to wear a more neutral or bored expression or even a smirk that someone would qualify as cruel.

It is important to note that his outfits usually cover him up and he's apparently quite fond of layers. The only time he's seen wearing anything like a t-shirt is when he's at home relaxing where only the people who live there will see him. He has a reputation as a mysterious fortune teller that he plans to maintain because it's good for business. Also, he is seen with a cigarette in his mouth far more often than not, even if it isn't actually lit. He might even get lazy and not actually light it until he sees someone else with one and then he'll touch the end of his to theirs to share the light they have.

□ Abilities/Powers: Ryouichi has no super human powers. Even if he is a fortune teller who can make accurate predictions, this technically is not super human in the universe he is from. However, it is important to note that he is good at reading the fortunes of others, especially with Tarot cards. He also has a talent understanding the human mind as well as for hypnotism which is, again, not a superhuman ability. He has used this on Masato to calm him down so he will be less of a hot head with the customers who come to the shop and could use it on others if he had to. Otherwise, he is a normal human being who can be hurt and become ill and so on.

□ Personal Items: Pack of cigarettes, lighter, deck of Tarot cards, pair of retro round sunglasses, leopard print coat with black fur collar, three changes of clothes, cross necklace, pair of boots

A chip, huh?

[The voice is a calm one, quite composed and not one in a rush to be upset by all of this. Oh he knows that he should likely be panicking over this but the reality is that doing so isn't likely to do him any good and he's aware of this fact. So, moving on...]

I suppose that means this is recording then. That's some freaky science fiction business there. Can't say that was ever one of my favorite genres since you make up a bunch of stuff just to call it science.

[The sound of a lighter is heard followed by the soft crackle that comes from the flame touching a cigarette. A slow intake of breath and then an exhale.]

This apparently means that I'm stuck here for awhile and should likely get used to the fact. Not how I expected my day to go but I didn't have anything better to do after Hokuto was done pouting at me.

I'm Zakuro. Who would care to tell me what a psychic can do for employment around here?
